"The Great Gatsby" (English The Great Gatsby.) - A novel by American writer F. Scott Fitzgerald. It has been published 10 April 1925 and is in American literature, a typical representative of the so-called "Age of Jazz." Roman started Fitzgerald in New York, and completed and published in Paris, where he had lived during his trip to Europe.
The novel, the plot of which is the main line of a love story with a tragic denouement detective and develops close to New York City, on the "Golden Coast" of Long Island, among the villas of the rich. In the 1920s, after the chaos of the First World, American society has entered an unprecedented streak of prosperity: in the "Roaring Twenties," the US economy has developed rapidly. At the same time the "dry law" has made many millionaires and bootleggers gave significant impetus to the development of organized crime. Admiring the rich and their charm, Fitzgerald at the same time casts doubt on unlimited materialism and lack of moral America of that era.
